Work to build a new boathouse on the isle of Tiree is to begin in earnest this June when Tog Studio gather together a group of architects, students, engineers and anyone interested in design to participate in the live-build project for Tiree Maritime Trust.

This will be the second such project that Tog has undertaken following their completion of a temporary lighthouse on the island last year although this time the build is designed to be permanent.

The purpose built boathouse will provide shelter and workspace for maintaining the trust’s fleet of traditional boats, helping to preserve local craft and restoration techniques.

In collaboration with MAKLab elements of the structure will be digitally fabricated allowing elements of the structure to be built off site with Marley Eternit providing a frame clad in Profile 6 sheeting and Russwood supplying larch cladding.

A selection process for participants is now underway with all architecture and engineering schools in Scotland being offered the chance to book scholarship places for students. Anyone interested in participating is invited to download an application form direct from Tog Studio.

The boathouse build will take place from 22-29 June at Scannish, close to Tiree’s ferry terminal.
