May 3 2022
Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky arm of Pernd Ricard, is to invest £88m in its Aberlour and Miltonduff distilleries to boost production.
New extensions are proposed for both sites with the introduction of bio plants and mechanical vapour recompression technology to recycle waste heat from distillation to ensure carbon neutral production byu 2026.
Jean-Etienne Gourgues, chairman and CEO of Chivas Brothers said: “Scotch has demonstrated its resilience as a category over the past few challenging years and in the process has opened new avenues for growth. This expansion will allow us to increase our volume to capitalise on the increased demand and interest in Scotch, but also supports our drive to reduce emissions in line with our sustainability ambitions."
Expected to reach full capacity by the middle of 2025 the enlarged Miltonduff facility will deliver a purpose-built distillery adjacent to the existing plant.
The historic Aberlour distillery meanwhile will benefit from an upgraded visitor centre and a brand new still house with generous windows affording views to the River Spey.
