October 27 2008
A VIP rooftop extension looks set to give Edinburgh’s planners food for thought as Tony Singh, co-founder of Oloroso restaurant on Castle Street, submits plans for a rooftop dining experience. The restaurant aims to capitalise on a spectacular situation by providing an exclusive upper level for patrons seeking views of Edinburgh Castle and the Esplanade.
The glass and “mid-grey” panel clad extension is designed to match the existing style of the fourth floor restaurant. The sensitive location however augers ill for approval, planning officials are likely to make a meal of any alterations to the historic skyline.
With starters served it remains to be seen if Oloroso can proceed to the main course or whether a resulting food fight serves the eatery its just desserts.
