Work to deliver 82 council flats on the site of the former East Dunbartonshire Council headquarters in Kirkintilloch has been completed with the development now fully occupied.

The former Tom Johnston House was demolished to provide affordable housing for the town including eight amenity and eight wheelchair-accessible properties as well as five shared equity homes.

Completed by contractor CCG in partnership with Hub West Scotland, Mast Architects and G3 Consulting engineers the brownfield build benefits from views across Woodhead Park close to town centre amenities.

Joint council leader Vaughan Moody, commented: "Visually, it enhances the area and it also marks a significant step forward in addressing the continuing need for more affordable housing in the area. It is a great location with a leisure centre, park, supermarket and bus and train routes all right on the doorstep."

Employing off-site manufacturing technologies the homes were built using closed panel walls that connect to floor and roof cassettes to provide the superstructure for the building.

#2 - Town. Centre. Council. Flats. Not exactly the place to live, so what did you expect?

Surely the centre of a town is a place to stay but this is not one of the prime examples of a town centre development. Where is the diversity of use and space that should be introduced to give a cohesive solution to such a development.
