Camphill Schools plan co-living residential home for retiring workers
February 24 2022
Plans for an innovative co-living residential home in Aberdeen have been brought forward by Camphill Schools, to provide accommodation for charity workers wishing to remain associated with the movement in later life.
The co-housing community by Taylor Architecture provides 20 apartments with common house features to encourage friendship and companionship among occupants while maintaining their independence.
Replacing the surplus Whithorn and Caranoc buildings on the Cairnlee Estate off Baillieswells Road with rationalised accommodation the Cainlee co-housing community will adopt a cranked plan to align with the neighbouring Simeon House and provide a more visible principal entrance.
In a statement the applicant observed: "Cairnlee Senior Co-housing Aberdeen has been created to address the needs of an ageing co-worker population dedicated to service of Camphill Schools Aberdeen. Senior members of staff forever connected to the Camphill ethos wish to remain a part of the community into later years.
"The staff wish to maintain the independence of having their own flatted property but reap the benefits of sharing aspects of daily life, building on friendships, companionship and provide support for each other. The collaborative group of neighbours will create a social network that will maintain a strong sense of community."
Camphill School is engaged in a decade-long development plan to improve its estate and the care provided to children and young people.
