Gym in a jam
October 23 2008
Bannatyne’s Health Club has seen the lease terminated for its city centre premises on William Street, Glasgow. The gym will close this July to make way for a new office development which will see the existing 25m pool and car park demolished. Space within the basement area of the Abbey building will be reconfigured with a new vehicle access ramp.
The firm is looking at alternative sites for a new build gym, which can be constructed in six months, but land values see the current nearest sited in suburban Stepps.
No replacement leisure provision will be provided in the new build office block which will see instead a terrace garden and café/restaurant above twin basement parking levels accommodating 200 vehicles.
The 250,000sq/ft development from Castlemore and the Hugh Martin Partnership is expected to commence construction toward the end of 2009, representing one of the largest speculative office schemes outside London.
