North Ayrshire embraces self-build in Largs
February 14 2022
North Ayrshire Council has launched a self-build initiative on the outskirts of Largs to encourage prospective first-time builders to take the plunge and design their own home.
A master plan prepared with assistance from John Gilbert Architects sets out an overarching design code for the site to streamline the planning process for six detached properties off Holehouse Road.
Intended to attract private homeowners seeking to build their principal home and occupy it for at least three years, the scheme will also promote new approaches to affordable design and sustainability.
In a statement, the authority wrote: "The masterplan creates a new group of buildings that sit nestled into the corner where an existing pedestrian path branches off of Holehouse Road. These 6 self-build plots will act as the first stage in the new Brisbane development leaving room to extend the development to the north of the site over time if desired. The inclusion of open green spaces & amenity spaces will allow for further community engagement as well as ensuring the site doesn’t become overdeveloped."
Site of the former Brisbane Primary each fully serviced plot of between 425 and 675sq/m will be sold individually with the buyer then responsible for securing planning consent for the finished home within a specified build zone.
