Aedas snaffle third city hotel site
October 23 2008
Aedas have submitted outline proposals on behalf of the Davagh Trust for a mixed use scheme on land bounded by Washington, McAlpine and Balaclava Street in Glasgow’s International Financial Services District. The masterplan calls for a single 17,000m2 nine storey office pavilion alongside twin hotels of nine and twelve floors which will provide 120 beds of three star accommodation and 160 beds of five star accommodation respectively.
This follows a limited competition in which Aedas beat off their sole challenger with a thirty storey flat iron inspired tower. A vanishing residential market and commercial floor plate imperatives have seen this subsequently scaled back.
These plans supercede a 2004 proposal by Halliday Fraser Munro and Strathclyde Homes for a 178 home residential block.
