Elevated black aluminium Arran farmhouse proposed
February 8 2022
Plans for a bespoke farmyard home on the Isle of Arran have been lodged by Inkdesign who intend to clear a dilapidated cottage, oil container and storage sheds adjacent to Ardlui House to make way for a new dwelling.
Occupying an elevated position some 70m above sea level the site offers extensive views to the Holy Isle and Goatfell, with a bank of mature trees sheltering the site to the west.
The site will be cleared save for a stone boundary wall with any salvageable stone from demolished properties incorporated into the landscape design, with proximity to Ardlui House precluding any reuse or extension.
In a design statement, Inkdesign wrote: "The settlement will be enhanced through the introduction of the new house.
"The provision of outdoor social space and elevated private terraces maximises natural daylight within the house and provides strategic shelter from the prevailing weather, contributing to a healthier environment and lifestyle."
The replacement dwelling will be pushed to the east of the plot and is composed of two volumes, a one-half storey garage and home office connected to the two-storey main house, offering flexibility for future conversion to additional accommodation.
Elevations will be finished in vertically aligned, profiled black aluminium cladding with matching windows, doors and rainwater goods.
