'Sustainable village' tp connect Midlothian settlements
January 17 2022
Springfield Properties has shared proposals for 1,000 mixed tenure low and zero-carbon homes neighbouring Newtongrange and Mayfield in Midlothian.
The Lingerwood masterplan is built around a 20-minute neighbourhood model with an emphasis on green spaces such as woodland, meadows and grasslands.
Built around a village centre, modelled on a traditional clachan, the proposals draw on the mining history of the area to mix play spaces, allotments and landscaped gardens.
Martin Egan, chief operating officer for Springfield, said: “We believe our masterplan is a best-in-class example of the creation of a new sustainable neighbourhood which brings its own identity whilst respecting and connecting well with existing popular and distinct settlements.
"Our plan details the careful efforts made to create a sustainable village that will suit the needs of local people for generations to come and we are looking forward to the determination of our proposals.”
Subject to winning the necessary consent Springfield would start on site in 2023 with the first homes made available for occupation by the following year.
