Affordable Granton homes set the template for net-zero design
January 14 2022
The City of Edinburgh Council has awarded planning consent to a pilot housing project at Granton Waterfront to trial the delivery of affordable 'net zero' homes.
The Edinburgh Home Demonstrator initiative will see CCG and Anderson Bell Christie Architects deliver 75 net zero carbon homes and three commercial units behind the rejuvenated Granton Gasworks Station.
Targetting a spring start Granton D1 will be built off-site to net-zero principles established by CCG and Anderson Bell Christie, including zero-emissions heating. Completed homes will then be analysed by a team from Napier University to quantify their real-world energy performance.
Calum Murray, CCG (Scotland) director and Edinburgh Climate Commissioner, commented: “CCG is delighted to be leading the design and build of Granton D1 where we will provide a cutting-edge demonstration in the use of fabric first design and construction technology."
The Granton build will be delivered in tandem with a twin 444-home development at Western Villages, together both projects serve as a blueprint for sustainable housing in the city.
