Marina Hub proposed for James Watt Dock
December 14 2021
Richard Robb Architects have submitted amended plans for an administration building at James Watt Dock Marina in Greenock, rationalising the design through the removal of an oversailing flagpole canopy.
Updated plans have been informed through conversations with Inverclyde planning department with the scheme remaining largely unaltered from an approved 2017 submission.
Occupying a brownfield site the 400sq/m administrative hub is defined by a green Rockpanel clad access core conceived to welcome travellers from both land and water.
A cafe and bistro will overlook the dockside promenade with seating for up to 55 customers spilling over onto an outer deck with circular windows and brickwork responding to the nearby listed Sugar Shed buildings.
In a statement, the architects wrote: "Inspired by the lines of the dockside, the strong horizontals express the language of naval architecture and the promenade. Generous overhangs provide shelter from the Scottish weather."
27 parking spaces are proposed as part of the works.
