BBC Studioworks to operate Kelvin Hall Film & Broadcast Hub
December 8 2021
The BBC has been confirmed as tenant operator of the Kelvin Hall Film & Broadcast Hub through Studioworks, a commercial subsidiary of the public broadcaster.
The 10,500sq/ft studio was co-funded by Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government to bring more productions to the city and will produce a range of entertainment programming for broadcasters including ITV, STV, Sky, Channel 4 and Netflix.
This has seen the hangar-like volume filled with galleries, stages, dressing rooms and offices necessary for today's television productions.
Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken said: "BBC Studioworks will draw on their wealth of experience in the industry to develop Kelvin Hall as an important and attractive film and television location, continuing Glasgow's rise in this sector."
Scheduled to open next autumn the £11.9m complex has been refitted by Reiach & Hall Architects to operate from 100% renewable energy.
