Flatiron-inspired Inverurie town hall extension to rise

Aberdeenshire Council has filed plans to redevelop and extend Inverurie Town Hall as part of ongoing efforts to modernise and consolidate office space while adhering to town centre first principles.

The current B-listed Victorian town hall dates from 1862, occupying an island site at the head of Market Street in the heart of the town, but is ill-equipped to meet modern-day administrative needs.

Works will include the installation of lifts and ramped entry and a new build triangular extension inspired by New York's Flatiron building on an existing car park, suitable for 450 staff and acting as a 'beacon' for the town.

Predominantly clad in reconstituted stone this extension will include elements of extruded bronze capping to highlight feature vertical elements.

Delivery of the town hall project is being assisted by design advisors Fraser/Livingstone and conservation architect Georgina Allison.

Other than its a large triangle....this is hardly inspired by the Flatiron!
Did MF come up with that one??

Would be fantastic to see some sorely needed life breathed back into Inverurie town centre.
well considered design and FL's involvement will guarnatee a touch of class.
A rare positive from the Shire!
