UK pavilion brings a 'collective message' to Expo 2020 Dubai
September 29 2021
Photographs of the UK pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai have been released for the first time, showcasing how the cone-shaped message will communicate a 'collective message' of music and poetry to visitors.
Billed as Britain's largest presence at a World Expo since the Great Exhibition of 1851, the tubular creation has been conceived and designed by artist and designer Es Devlin, paying tribute to innovations in artificial intelligence, space technology, sustainable food and fashion.
Inspired by the work of Professor Stephen Hawking the structure will deliver a message of innovation to the Middle East and play host to a range of speakers, hospitality and performances - including solar home research undertaken by Heriot-Watt University.
Produced with structural engineer Atelier One, environmental design consultant Atelier Ten, executive architect Veretec and creative agency Avantgarde, the 20ft tall cone comprises 200 cross-laminated timbers (sourced from Austria and Italy), each fitted with LED lights to illuminate AI-generated poems in English and Arabic.
Postponed from last year the Expo 2020 Dubai opening ceremony will take place on 30 September.
