New Town ripples out to Canonmills with build to rent plan
September 21 2021
ShedKM have opened a public consultation to redevelop Beaverhall House, Canonmills, to provide a mix of homes, open space and reprovisioned artists studios.
Proposals led by residential property developer HUB call for the demolition of a cluster of buildings spanning 0.5 hectares to the west side of Beaverhall Road for a mix of build to rent homes, 25% of which will be affordable. These plans include a ground floor artists' space and amenities to activate the street frontage along Beaverhall Road and Dunedin Street.
In a statement HUB wrote: "Beaverhall House is currently home to a number of businesses from fitness clubs, artists’ studios and other small and medium-sized enterprises. However, these spaces are small, outdated and do not meet modern standards. The building is not suitable for conversion to residential use.
"The building is ageing and over time has fallen into disrepair. Given its location, which is a very sustainable site right on the edge of the New Town, Beaverhall House is extremely well placed to provide new homes for local people in an area that is increasingly seen as thriving."
A live chat with the development team will open on 28 September between 14:00 and 19:00. A detailed planning application will follow next year.
