Ross Hall Hospital reclad to improve kerb appeal

BMI Healthcare has filed plans to reclad and extend an existing entrance pavilion at Ross Hall Hospital in Crookston, Glasgow.

External walls will be reclad in dark grey composite metal cladding including a new 30sq/m canopy entrance and replacement curtain walling to better complement the B-listed main building.

In a statement, Ikon wrote: "The proposal is designed to blend seamlessly with the existing characteristics of the site and respect the original hospital building. Using the existing extension cladding as a basis, the pattern of the cladding is replicated in the proposed cladding.

"The materials are chosen to contrast the existing listed building whilst not overshadowing and distracting from the listed building. The openings in the proposed elevations are punched windows to better reflect the single panel windows of the listed building."

The changes will improve the u-values of the extension with openable windows to promote natural ventilation and daylight.

An interior courtyard will also be reclad as part of the work

Surely the strap line to the third photograph needs amended to - "The project aims, but fails, to provide a more sympathetic setting to the B-listed main building".
