Letham Mains streetscape art forges identity

Delivery of the Letham Mains masterplan in Haddington, East Lothian, is pushing ahead with the installation of a 5-tonne art installation forged by a local blacksmith.

Inspired by drawings made by local schoolchildren the steel centrepiece is scheduled to be installed in August outside Letham Mains Primary and is based on the traditional streetscape of the market town.

Peter Hill, an artist blacksmith at Ratho Byres who forged the dimensional piece on behalf of a consortium of housing developers, said: "We’ve gone for a streetscape design which looks impressive. It’s going to be twelve metres wide and six metres tall.

"The foundations have been laid and we can’t wait for the reveal in the coming weeks."

Letham Mains will see over 800 homes delivered by a consortium including Taylor Wimpey, Allanwater, Mactaggart & Mickel and Stewart Milne and CALA Homes (East) along a linear park connecting to Pencaitland Road.

Another 800 homes x 2 cars (3-4 when kids grow up) hitting A1 both ways on daily basis. Marvellous :)
