Showhomes unveiled at historic Montrose hospital
May 26 2021
The first 50 homes have been brought to market at a £100m redevelopment of the former Sunnyside Hospital in Montrose.
Led by FM Group, Garry Adam Architect and Pert Bruce Construction the plan calls for 450 eventual homes to be delivered within the historic hospital directly as well as 64 acres of grounds after being relinquished by NHS Tayside in 2016.
The A-listed Sunnyside Rotal Hospital remains as the centrepiece of the new estate, now joined by a collection of four and five-bedroom family homes set within mature woodland. A community hub is also being brought forward by Montrose Community Trust to harness the power of sport to enhance communities.
Peter Davidson, chief executive of Montrose Community Trust remarked: "The estate and this building in particular remains close to the hearts of many in our community. It has an intriguing history and this project will seek to honour it’s past but also secure its future.
“We are exploring the viability of including the installation of a small hydrotherapy pool in our plans and there are a number of people living locally who would benefit from such, due to recovering from an operation, or living with conditions such as cerebral palsy or spina bifida. Such a facility would also provide opportunities for the young to learn to swim, and the young at heart to maintain an active lifestyle."
Next in line for completion are 35 affordable homes delivered on behalf of Hillcrest Homes which are scheduled to complete in January 2022.
