Views sought on Giffnock leisure & civic hub

East Renfrewshire Council is inviting feedback on early proposals to build a new Eastwood leisure centre and theatre in advance of a full planning application in the next few months.

The local authority intends to demolish an end of life leisure centre at Eastwood Park, Giffnock, to progress a new cultural centre comprising sports facilities, a theatre and a library. Designed by Stallan-Brand the emerging plan calls for the provision of a new civic building to respect the existing council HQ and historic Eastwood House within formally landscaped grounds.

In a statement, the project team wrote: "The overarching key concepts of the building are, to create a Civic Front Door at the location of the existing building, that fully addresses the park; to place the Heart Of The Building On a Key Site-Wide Axis and to facilitate Swimming In A Rich Woodland Setting."

The project team will field a live chat on 24 May between 1300 and 1700 and 25 May between 1600 and 2000 to answer any questions.

Once planning permission is achieved work could start on-site in June 2022 on a two-year build programme.
