Glasgow Harbour build handed financial lifeline

Dandara Living is to press ahead with 342 build to rent apartments at Glasgow Harbour after securing £60m in funding from HSBC.

Marketed as gh2o the L-plan block would close out the second phase of the riverfront complex, framing a semi-private landscaped courtyard opening onto a riverfront promenade with two arms of accommodation reaching 16 and 12 storeys.

An interior pedestrian link will cut through the building to provide further permeability with active frontages at ground level including a retail tenant on the river frontage.

Designed by Axis Mason the apartments will feature staggered full-length balconies to the south with glazed vertical sunscreens with a white enamel fritted pattern adding further interest. Facades will be finished in a variety of acid-etched pre-cast panels, including concrete, reconstructed portland stone, brown quartz and granite.

Planning approval was granted back in December 2015 and later renewed in 2018 for the build. Completion of the west end complex is expected by March 2023.

Why is this grim rubbish being consented? Still no non resi uses. No sense of place. Not identity. Are they still planning to solve this with a 'retail park' and a tonne of car parking. What a waste. Hey GCC, 1995 called and wants its masterplan back.

Only another 500m to go till they fill in the western segment of this development.

Not a great advert for the city or the developer -- when you look at their efforts in Liverpool we have been stuck with their B team phoning it in.

As for the design itself -- not quite getting why we have solid walls at the end closest to the river while it is all glazing where the two wings come together with all the associated privacy issues.

Really low quality filler at best.
I think that the whole project has become everyone's abandoned child.

Shame really.

But the city can't complain given their no efforts at the SECC.
