New homes to line Stirling approach road
February 10 2021
Stirling Council's housing development arm is to demolish a former homeless hostel on the outskirts of the city following the migration of services to Lower Bridge Street.
Having determined that remodelling the block for mainstream accommodation would be uneconomic the authority intends to demolish the current structure and erect eight cottage flats in its place.
Located at the junction of Glasgow and Barnsdale Road's the proposals employ a stepped building line to provide privacy for residents and accommodate outdoor patios.
In their design statement, the authority observed: "... the building layout has been designed to wrap along the South, South West and West boundaries of the site to enhance and emphasise the corner.
"... these elevations have been staggered to create private patio spaces along the principal elevations to allow living spaces within each flat to connect to the street and provide the opportunity for social interaction between residents and pedestrians."
Constructed using off-site timber kit panels the development will combine smooth and coarse brick or masonry to street frontages with smooth white render and composite weatherboarding employed for recessed elements.
