Morrison Construction is to hand over Letham Mains Primary School, Haddington, to East Lothian Council later today.

Funded entirely through developer contributions from the construction of 809 homes in the area the £8.6m school has been subject to delays brought on by Covid-19 restrictions having originally been scheduled to complete last summer.

Councillor Shamin Akhtar commented: “The construction environment over the past 10 months has been challenging and it’s a credit to all those involved that they have been able to continue working safely to complete the building."

Attention will now turn to an interior fit-out of the school ready for occupation after the February break, with a nursery scheduled to open after the Easter break.

Design work was carried out by East Lothian Council's in-house architectural team with AECOM, Currie & Brown and RSP.

Ah the good old East Lothian in-house architectural team producing their normal quality of work. To think I was turned down for a job in there all those years ago. Good riddance.

Morrison missed lowering the screens to match the wall cupboards - that step is eye jarringly bad. Saving there would have paid for vents to match wall and still have money left over. Design managers month off?
