Meadowbank student build obtains planning all-clear

City of Edinburgh planners have awarded consent to a 76-bed student housing development at 65 London Road designed by 3DReid Architects on behalf of HG Developments.
The gusset site is located in the Meadowbank area of the city which is transitioning from industrial to mixed commercial and residential use. The decision paves the way for a six-storey brick block to be built on the site of a car wash, further accelerating those trends.
Ruta Turcinaviciute, project designer at 3DReid said: “The proposed scheme marks an important moment for the future redevelopment of a constrained and complicated site, which will benefit the urban quality of London Road and represent a further contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the wider area.
"The proposed building seeks to address the prominent corner of the site, to its eastern approach, while the material and language of the building follows the emerging palette of the new developments currently proposed in the area, in addition to responding to the tones of the more historic tenements that form the wider context.”
Delivering 76 self-contained studios with shared communal facilities on every floor the development will connect to a neighbouring student housing scheme via a glazed link.
Local charity People Know How will relocate to the ground floor of the development for their new head office.
