Student flats to complete Paisley High Street revitalisation
November 2 2020
Renfrewshire Council has approved a bid to transform a former Territorial Army drill hall on Paisley's High Street into student accommodation.
Plans drawn up by Carson & Partners, in association with John Gilbert Architects, will see the frontage of the B-listed landmark, joined by a further two buildings on the site.
In all some 196 student room swill be created catering for foreign students attending the nearby University of the West of Scotland, including 10 wheelchair accessible properties.
John Horne, director of The JR Group, commented: “We are a Paisley-based firm so it means a little bit more to be transforming what has been an eyesore for the city for more than 20 years and reinvigorating a key part of Paisley’s history and ensuring its future for many years to come.”
Construction should commence early next year for completion by 2023, resolving one of the last major regeneration challenges on the High Street with renovations already underway at Paisley Museum & Art Gallery and Coats Memorial Church.
The project team includes Cowal Design, Iceni, Astute and Hawthorne & Boyle.
