Dundee Port Authority HQ conversion passes planning scrutiny

Jmarchitects have been granted planning consent to convert Dundee's A-listed Custom House to form 20 apartments together with the construction of twin new build blocks for a further 29 flats.

Set amid gated private parking and landscaped communal gardens the scheme will secure the future of the Georgian Port Authority headquarters, which has lain disused since 2008.

Heritage assets such as crests, plastered vestibules and timber panelling will be retained as part of the remodelling with any artefacts unable to be incorporated passed onto local historical societies.

In a press statement, the architects wrote: "This development proposal responds to the ongoing demand for housing in Scotland, and in particular in the city of Dundee. It is anticipated that construction will start in 2021."

New build elements will be formed from brickwork panels with precast detailing with the easternmost block rising organically from a retained ground floor annexe.
