Bellsmyre regeneration enters delivery phase with planning go-ahead
September 10 2020
West Dunbartonshire Council has approved a development of 66 affordable homes at Muir Road in the Bellsmyre area of Dumbarton, clearing the way for the first phase of a wider £30m regeneration initiative to move on-site early next year.
Led by Caledonia Housing Association with ECD Architects the project will deliver a mix of energy-efficient houses and flats for social rent in a light monochromatic palette of grey brick and feature gables.
Featuring deep-set windows and recessed details the homes conform to a broader masterplan that seeks to establish smaller neighbourhoods arranged around landscape and amenity spaces that seek to minimise 'leftover' spaces of no intrinsic value on the steeply sloping site.
David Gallacher, associate director at ECD Architects, commented: “We have worked closely with the client, local authority and community groups in developing good quality, energy-efficient housing designs which will provide a positive impact to the local community.”
A network of paths will also better integrate Bellsmyre with woodland to the north.
