Glasgow Airport hotel expected to clear planning hurdle

Cairns Hotels Group are expected to obtain planning consent for a pre-COVID 181-room hotel serving Glasgow Airport - after submitted plans were recommended for approval by Renfrewshire Council planning officers.

Occupying vacant land within a nearby business park at Marchburn Drive the plans have been adjusted to shift massing, windows and drop-off points away from existing homes.

In presenting their decision the officers wrote: "The design of the hotel has been altered significantly during the assessment process to reduce the height adjacent to residential development.

“Given the alterations to design and massing of the proposed hotel and its location, it is not considered that it would have a significant impact on visual amenity or local landscape character to the detriment of the wider area."

Designs by Cumming & Co show a five-storey U-plan build framing the culverted March Burn, with shared facilities located in a generous ground-floor space with bedrooms above framed in brick panels and fibre cement cladding.

Don’t think this will be added to Paisley’s listed buildings in future.

As functional as a Shanks toilet!

Could we start calling this Paisley Airport? At least it'll match the rest of town 'iconic architecture' then.

In response to #3 paisley town centre has some stunning architecture with many grand buildings remaining from its wealthy mill town past that should be used but the likes of Braehead sucked the life from what was a bustling town centre.

Is this a joke?? I mean quite seriously what kind of message is this country trying to portray to visitors arriving here for this first time...based on this utter drivel it must be that of an ambition-less, bargain basement hole. Total despair, oh well..night folks. R

#6 quite, I guess it's in keeping with Glasgow Airport's utter banality.

Most airport hotels are banal, Glasgow is joining the crowd on this one.
