Winchburgh education campus handed August go-ahead

Construction work is poised to begin next month on a primary school and two new secondaries and a sports building in Winchburgh following an agreement between Hub South East and Morrison Construction.

The agreement will see Morrison Construction serve as the main contractor to build a replacement Holy Family Primary School and nursery designed by jmarchitects, as well as two separate High Schools around shared sports pitches, a swimming pool and community block designed and overseen by Ryder.

Winchburgh and Sinclair Academy will each serve 660 non-denominational and denominational pupils respectively when ready for occupation in 2023.

In a statement, Ryder wrote: "The four buildings, though individually distinct from each other, will share a common thread of materials, natural light and ventilation. It is anticipated that the schools will provide an inspirational learning environment which will serve the community for generations to come. Furthermore, the project seeks to become much more than a series of buildings but a genuine focus for the community of Winchburgh."

The £60.5m education vision is being led by West Lothian Council following Winchburgh's designation as a core development area for new housing over the next decade.

It really is uninspiring stuff in't it. Let's call a spade a spade - it's a big box (or series of boxes) to keep a thronging mass of weans captive in. That primary school entrance image just looks really awful. Looking at that gives me the same feeling I imagine prisoners feel when they look up as they are being walked into their new home after sentencing.
