Rooftop restaurant to put St Andrews in perspective

A formal bid to extend the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews has been mounted by Unwin Jones Partnership, with plans to erect a fourth-floor glazed extension to the east wing of the golf resort and spa.

Housing an elevated bar the plan will reconfigure an existing external plant deck, extending the current restaurant and capitalising on views across the course.

In a design statement, the Carlisle-based practice wrote: "The design of the new bar will be in keeping with the existing hotel, solid walls will be formed in lightweight metal framing and rendered to match the existing hotel walls.

"New glazing will be aluminium framed curtain walling, the colour will be matched to the existing hotel glazing. The roof is flat in design and will be finished in Sarnafil or equal. It will cantilever over the new bar and roof terrace, the edge profile will match the existing roof.

Overall the design minimises its impact on the overall hotel design while creating a new distinct space." The new bar and external terrace will amount to 165sq/m of additional floor space.
