£7.5m Maybole town centre regeneration programme launched
South Ayrshire Council have kickstarted ambitious regeneration proposals for the town of Maybole with publication of a four-year roadmap to prosperity.

Key to the success of the initiative will be a partnership approach with businesses and residents who will be offered grants to upgrade shopfronts and carry out vital fabric repairs.

Building on Maybole's heritage as the historic capital of Carrick the work will focus on renovations to important civic buildings including the town hall and castle. Streetscape and access improvements will tie this work together by developing new walking and cycling routes and relocating heavy traffic to a town bypass.

Mark Fletcher, chair of the Maybole Community Council, said: “The recent lockdown has demonstrated the importance of the ‘shop local’ message and provided both reason and opportunity to walk and cycle. I hope this will have provided a taste of what a regenerated town centre can mean to Maybole, as we reclaim the High Street for people, not traffic.“

Environmental planning is being overseen by LUC with Sustrans developing new and improved walking and cycling routes.

These are some of the worst visuals I've ever seen. The perspectives are wonky and the people are all the wrong scale. Must be nice to have clients where you don't have to try.

#1 It's what happens when you base your visuals on Google Streetview rather than visiting and taking an actual photo

...and back to the scheme. I think these towns need to be braver. Clear poor quality buildings either ends of town/street to provide car parking for visitors and maximise pedestrian areas.
