The owner of a prime development plot in Dundee city centre has changed tack after signing up Crosslane Student Developments with to erect 180 purpose-built studio flats.

A proposal of application notice filed by Maith Design for a filling station on Marketgait between Ward Road and South Ward Road supercedes an approved application by Brunton Design for 43 flats above ground-floor retail, which stalled amid failure to find a developer partner.

With Crosslane on board, the direction of travel is now firmly in favour of student accommodation, with retail giving way for student facilities such as a cinema, gym and games room.

Hollie Griffin, regional development director of Crosslane said: “By developing a high-quality studio scheme that focuses on expansive social areas and high-quality facilities, with the support of an active onsite management team, we can provide the space needed for students to reach their academic potential and have the best experience living in Dundee.”

A full planning application is now being prepared which will take on board public representations.
