September 9 2008
Deramore Property Group and the Hugh Martin Partnership have lodged a planning application for a 100 bedroom hotel and department store at 121 Princes Street.Fashion retailer New Look has agreed to occupy the all glass, three level podium store of the £40 million property subject to planning permission.
The site comprises two B-listed buildings, one of which will be demolished with the other subject to façade retention. The hotel will accommodate a bar and restaurant to compliment a large rooftop garden to take advantage of an open aspect across West Princes Street Gardens.
The scheme represents the first incision on Princes Street since the city council launched their “string of pearls” initiative.
Darren Lonega, spokesman for Deramore, said: "We've sought inspiration from other world class cities and consulted widely within Edinburgh during the development of our proposals”
"We believe this scheme will deliver a sensitive and sustainable solution for these historic buildings to contribute far more positively to the vibrancy of Scotland's premier street."
