Langside villa succumbs to wave of apartment building

Ian Wilson properties have come forward with proposals to build 20 flats on the site of a sandstone villa on Mansionhouse Road, Langside, under plans prepared by DTA Architects.
Located across the road from the former Bon Secours Hospital, now a 100-home apartment scheme by CALA, the scheme would adopt a rough brick finish to give a hand-moulded appearance with feature corbeling.
The developer wrote: “The level and style of development proposed is in keeping with the surrounding area and we feel it will be a positive contribution to the streetscape.
“The bottom two floors use a darker brick with prominent horizontal banding, created by protruding every third course, to form a definitive base course to the development. The upper three floors use a lighter buff brick that gives an appearance similar to sandstone.”
Latterly in use as a convent, the property was vacated following the closure of the hospital.
