Planning friction shrinks planned Morningside townhouses

Block 9 Architects have prepared revised designs for three townhouses on the site of an Edinburgh nursery in response to planning  friction.

The latest plans serve to reduce the scale and overall massing of the Morningside Drive build by bringing the roofline down to that of an adjacent terrace, ensuring that the properties remain in proportion to their neighbours.

In tandem with this move, the staggered footprint as first presented has been pushed back to stand in line with the aforementioned terrace while the windows have also been brought into alignment.

The updated proposals constitute a mixed palette consisting of a ‘floating’ grey sandstone element in front of each unit emphasised by stained timber behind, complemented by a grey slate upper floor.

In an accompanying note, the architects wrote: “The proposed revisions scale back the buildings and incorporate further features and characteristics from the surrounding area, creating a sense of place and respecting the conservation area.”

An unlisted nursery will require to be demolished to accommodate the new homes.

Looks good - given the size of the neghbouring terrace, it should have been bigger (altho I'm sure the progressive thinkers in Morningside would have loved that)
