B-listed Montrose hospital nets new homes

The B-listed Sunnyside Royal Hospital near Montrose is to begin a new lease of life with the commencement of work to deliver 35 affordable homes within its grounds.
The first of two phases of affordable housing to be undertaken by Hillcrest Homes and Garry Adam Architect the £4.4m development will complete by summer 2021, with a further 59 homes due to move on site thereafter.
Angela Linton, Hillcrest chief executive, said: “Sunnyside has a huge historical significance to the local area, and we’re delighted that the hospital building will be preserved for future generations as part of the wider development plans.
“As well as boosting Angus’ affordable housing provision, these 35 properties being developed for Hillcrest in the beautiful grounds of the estate will give families a modern, energy efficient place to call home.”
Distinguished as being one of the first asylum’s in the English speaking world Sunnyside is being overhauled at the hands of Pert-Bruce and FM Group to provide 450 homes.
