Bonnybridge amenity flats meet housing need

Falkirk Council is proposing to replace the derelict Bonnybridge Social Club on Main Street with 22 flats for social rent as part of a drive to increase the provision of amenity housing across the local authority area.

Earmarked for the elderly or tenants with physical disabilities the development is designed to be fully accessible with barrier-free access to all flats.

Managing a sharp drop of up to 4m in ground level from the road the scheme stands behind a retaining wall along the road frontage.

In a development statement, the authority wrote: “The layout of the development is based on a 'Block' form placed between an access road and communal area providing natural surveillance and a sense of community within its immediate context. The flats are orientated to benefit from natural views around the site.”

Finished in a mix of Forticrete Anstone walling, brick cladding and render the development forms part of an initiative to prioritise urban brownfield sites for development.
