Brownfield Barlanark site earmarked for 37 homes

Mast Architects have prepared plans for 37 new flats on brownfield land at Barlanark in Glasgow’s East End on behalf of Calvay housing Association.

Incorporating a mix of terraced houses and cottage flats the properties have been designed under Glasgow City Council guidelines, with vehicles will be catered for by dedicated landscaped parking courts with all homes finished in a buff multi-facing brick.

Outlining their rationale behind the scheme the architects wrote: “The edge and frontage of the buildings have been pulled closer to the footpaths and roads, with planting introduced to create a well-defined street edge. Along with this, hard and soft landscaping cuts through the site, providing open space to the tenants and locals.”

Garvel Crescent has been designed to housing for varying needs standards including barrier-free access, minimum gradients and provision for wheelchairs.

The site was previously home to properties dating from the 1950s which were demolished in phases between 1999 and 2017.
