Ape appeal
September 4 2008
Scottish Government ministers have given the final go-ahead for an aerial adventure course in Pollok Park. The application was originally approved in March, but this decision was subsequently deferred due to the council’s financial interest.
The scheme has split opinion with some decrying a perceived gross violation of the principle of public parkland. Secondary concerns pertaining to litter, traffic, crowds and commercialisation have been cited as commonly associated problems with an enterprise of this type.
Supporters of the development adopt reversed perspective holding such "problems", if encountered, as symptomatic of the parks success against what is at present an underutilised resource, Go Ape's founder has been at pains to stress such issues would be properly managed and addressed.
