New homes bring life to Dingwall High Street
November 25 2019
Ark Estates has applied for a variation of consent to allow a historic façade on Dingwall High Street to be taken down and rebuilt instead of being refurbished as part of moves to deliver new build housing designed by Oberlanders and Catriona Hill.
The revised bid follows an assessment that a commercial premise adjacent to the Picture House is untenable, necessitating that it be carefully dismantled to allow its reinstatement in a combination of both retained and new stonework.
Outlining the extent of structural issues, a report details a 100mm bulge at first-floor level owing to severe rot in timber lintels holding up the current shop frontage. This is exacerbated by cracked, spalling and eroded stonework.
Dingwall is a priority area for housing, and we hope that town centre accommodation will also help to regenerate the High Street by bringing people back into the area. Smaller shop units will also be available which should be more easily let than the existing larger units.
A total of 17 flats will be delivered behind the retained frontages subject to consent from Highland Council.
