South Edinburgh primary cleared for Christmas start
November 7 2019
The City of Edinburgh Council has cleared the way for a pre-Christmas start for a new primary school and nursery at Canaan Lane after granting planning approval.
Located within the Grange Conservation Area the as yet unnamed new school will have a capacity of 500 pupils and has been designed by architects Holmes Miller to sit behind a striking sandstone and corten steel frontage.
Councillor Ian Perry commented: "There’s a special emphasis on outdoor learning, with a variety of opportunities for different types of play in a green and diverse environment that aims to reconnect children with the natural world. And we’ll make strides towards our ambitious target of becoming a carbon-neutral Capital city by 2030 with the inclusion of air source heat pumps to supply the school with renewable energy.”
Work will now get underway over the coming weeks with the school expected to open its doors in time for the August 2021 academic year.
