O’DonnellBrown emerge as sole UK representatives in emerging architect award
November 4 2019
Glasgow-based architecture studio O’DonnellBrown has come to global recognition after emerging as the only UK studio to be shortlisted in an international emerging architect award.
Designed to celebrate practices in their formative years the award is overseen by the Architectural Review and is judged based on a submitted completed project, current work and an idea.
This saw the studio put forward its Swanlea Sixth Form classroom in Tower Hamlets together with Millport Town Hall on the Isle of Cumbrae, which remains a work in progress and The Community Classroom in Pollokshields.
Work at Millport Town Hall remains at an early stage but would see the crumbling civic attraction transformed into a community hall, heritage centre and holiday apartments.
Founded in 2013 by Glasgow School of Art Graduates Jennifer O'Donnell and Sam Brown O'DonnellBrown now employ a team of five from their Maxwell Park HQ.
O'Donnell commented: "The team work so hard to give each project the attention it needs to really create a positive contribution for the people who will use and experience our architecture, and to get this recognition, to feel like what we are doing has been noticed, has been incredibly motivational.”
The winner will be revealed in Amsterdam on 6 December by the judging panel at the World Architecture Festival.
