Calton Village masterplan points Glasgow’s east end in a new direction
October 31 2019
Hypostyle Architects have drawn up plans for 254 homes on brownfield land off the Gallowgate in the heart of Glasgow’s east end.
Spearheaded by the Wheatley Group Calton Village will comprise a mix of three-storey townhouses and apartments finished in a variety of facing brick and composite weatherboarding spread across three separate phases.
Located alongside the proposed regeneration of an adjacent Meat Market the housing will rise to seven floors at its highest point across the 6-acre site.
The scheme would sit to the immediate west of Graham Square, a development for Molendinar Park Housing Association by Richard Murphy Architects, jmarchitects, Elder & Cannon and Page\Park.

Also would the developer not consider buying out that awful MOT centre and single storey row of shops to undertake a complete redevelopment of the block?
There seems to be zero ambition here to improve the area.
Where's the relationship to the grid? The bulk?
Is Glasgow the only city that continually makes these same mistakes?
Gallowgate should be bustling with commerce.
This site needs to be high density incorporated into the grid. Why cant they see that.
I remember when these green fields were all tenements!
It will be interesting to see if this progresses into the area to the north west of the plan, a much larger area formerly occupied by the meat market/cattle market.
Just go on and do this: https://imgur.com/XpUe8tH
Really, it's not difficult.
In the second picture you have what makes Glasgow unique. And elegant. And walkable, and liveable, and urban, and interesting.
Stop destroying it.
