Aberdeen cinema expansion is given an advance screening

An Aberdeen cinema is set for expansion under plans filed by the owners to expand over the existing car park.

Designs drawn up by WCP Architects on behalf of X Leisure would deliver a new Imax screen with a capacity for 409 people together with a new entrance foyer and a further 204-seat screen at the existing Cineworld complex at Queens Links.

These additions would dovetail with a remodeling of the current space to deliver a net increase of 309 seats on current capacity. A café and outdoor seating area are also envisaged as part of the expansion.

The new auditoriums would be clad in aluminium ‘shingles’ laid in a diagonal pattern rising above a base course of granite rain screen, each flanking a central entrance block finished in precast concrete columns, polycarbonate and powder-coated aluminium.

Upon completion, the cinema would stretch to 2,133sq/ft with parking reduced from 886 to 825 spaces.
