Planned sports pavilion raises the bar in Pollok
September 24 2019
Hillwood Community Trust and Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands have teamed up to build a sports pavilion and community space at the Priesthill Playing Fields, Pollok.
Hillwood Pavilion will provide an indoor games hall and associated changing facilities in the latest phase of work at the site which has already delivered several new and upgraded outdoor pitches on the site.
Dominated by a smooth rendered flat cantilevered roof which tapers to a perimeter soffit, the pavilion is faced in grey brick with large format aluminium framed windows framing the surrounding playing fields. All window and door openings will be framed by a concrete ‘skirt’ running along the building base with pre-cast concrete panels providing engraved signage.
Outlining their proposed scheme the architects wrote: “Creating a civic building which considers its proximity to the neighbours and acts as a gateway to the playing fields creates an interesting opportunity for a building of civic presence nestled in its surroundings.
“The solution is a contemporary response to the local vernacular, with a single storey pavilion building which spans forward along its length towards the existing playing fields.”
The pavilion marks the final phase of work to create an improved facility for Hillwood Football Club
