JPMorgan Chase confirm new 270,000sq/ft Glasgow HQ

US banking giant JPMorgan Chase has marked its 20th anniversary in Glasgow with confirmation that it intends to relocate staff to a new Argyle Street HQ from 2022 to accommodate an increase in headcount from around 2,000 to 2,700.

Approved just last month the 270,000sq/ft building has been designed by Cooper Cromar to provide 13 levels of Grade A open plan office space while targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Confirmation that the bank intends to lease the full building from Osborne & Co will allow the firm to unite staff currently spread across two separate properties while also giving it the room it needs to undertake further expansion.

Council leader Susan Aitken remarked: “We are hugely encouraged by the impressive scale of JPMorgan Chase’s new Glasgow office which offers significant scope for further expansion of its workforce in the city, creating new jobs for our residents, while regenerating a key city-centre site.”

Construction of the new HQ, which will include 350 cycle spaces and just 12 parking bays, is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2020.

Excellent news for the city and the whole of Scotland. Just a pity this new development couldn't have risen behind a retained facade of the B Listed building...

Fantastic news and a further boost for Glasgow and Scotland’s financial services and tech scene. I have it on good information that JP Morgan intend to fill the building with an extra 1000 jobs within a short period of time. With Morgan Stanley, Clydesdale Bank and the massive Barclays investment, Glasgow and Scotland’s financial services sector is proving its worth to the economy. Now let’s continue to build more housing units in central Glasgow for all these new workers!

Excellent news for Glasgow and a real boost for the local economy - also an excellent endorsement of the calibre of workforce coming through the higher education establishments in Glasgow.
