Aedas swell Bothwell

European Development Company Hotels Ltd (EDC) have appointed Aedas to design the £120 million Bothwell Plaza scheme on Bothwell Street, Glasgow.Comprising twin elements, the eastern portion will accommodate 320,000sq/ft of commercial space whilst an adjacent 18 storey tower will be tallest commercial building in Glasgow, combining a 320 bed hotel and office space with an impressive atrium and event space.
Richard Blair, Project Director at Aedas said: “Aedas’ evidence-based approach has resulted in a detailed analysis of the townscape issues and programmatic aspects of the project. This has given us a comprehensive understanding of the key drivers and allowed us to develop a high-quality response to a challenging site.”
Aedas Project Associate, Stuart Graham, said: “The proposals respond to local conditions, providing a sensitive contextual response. We have also created a bold and confident statement, which is a symbol of Glasgow’s vibrancy at a significant entry point into the city.”
The development is anticipated to commence this year with completion scheduled for 2011.
