Broomview brings the House down
August 27 2008
Broomview House in Edinburgh is set to be demolished on 21 September, accompanied by a live internet broadcast. The estate has been subject to severe subsidence such that, according to local resident Andrew Downie: “The ice cream van used to be able to drive through the pillars that support the building, but you couldn’t fit a car under there now.”The site forms part of a larger £60 million masterplan which will see new homes and a childrens playpark constructed alongside a newly formed street complete with a parade of shops, community centre, library and student housing.
The neighbouring Hermiston Court has also been condemned and will be demolished as soon as remaining tenants can be rehoused.
