John Gilbert Architects complete leadership succession
August 30 2019
John Gilbert Architects have announced the retirement of practice founder and RIAS fellow John Gilbert, completing a succession plan first put into place in 2012.
Gilbert founded the practice which bears his name in 1992 shortly after the publication of the Tenement Handbook and has gone onto building the practice over the intervening 27 years, maintaining a strong interest in conservation throughout.
Recent work has focused on the delivery of ‘Passivhoos’ standard affordable homes in partnership with housing associations by developing new methods of low energy construction while championing refurbishment and maintenance.
Over the past seven years, Gilbert has been working with directors Matt Bridgestock; Scott Abercrombie and Chris Morgan to carry the baton forward.
In a statement, the practice wrote: “In his retirement, he will continue to work with John Gilbert Architects on a consultancy basis, volunteer for the Leith Theatre Trust and also to act as a director of the Vivarium Trust. John remains active in tenement repair and research, his work and direct contact details can be found at www.underoneroof.scot.”
