Architect-led design team sought for £1.1m Balerno learning hub

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland is seeking an architect-led design team for a £1.1m learning hub in the village of Balerno, Edinburgh.

Situated within the 35-acre estate of the Harmeny School, a provider of residential care and education to vulnerable children, the hub would augment the schools care programme, enabling it to extend its offer to more young people from the city.

A dual-stage competitive selection process will be run by the RIAS Consultancy from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and kicks off with an open invitation for interested parties to submit a 500-word statement setting out their experience, interest in the project and the reasons they should be considered.

From there five bidders will be shortlisted by a judging panel to form a multi-disciplinary team to submit additional information along with a presentation and interview.

Neil Squires, chief executive of the Harmeny Education Trust, said: “We have reached a pivotal time where we wish to offer even more young people the opportunity to benefit from our services, and to do this we need to improve our learning resources. We are excited about working with a design team that truly understand the needs of our young people and the environment, and help us build the facilities they deserve to fully reach their potential.”

All requests for documentation can be made to the RIAS Consultancy by email until 22 August via consultancy@rias.org.uk, with a deadline for expressions of interest set at noon on 27 August.
